For craftsmen seeking advancement or change, laborers seeking to learn and grow or young people interested in starting a construction career, Haskell offers numerous openings and nearly endless opportunities.

A fast-growing Architecture, Engineering, Construction (AEC) company with 20-plus offices and four times that many ongoing projects across the United States, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region, Haskell self-performs much of the work on each job. It accomplishes this with a skilled and versatile workforce of Permanent Craft Employees (PCEs).

Its groundbreaking PCE program was established in the mid-1970s when the company extended full-time employment and benefits to skilled tradespeople, providing stability to these professionals and elevating project standards. Today, the group numbers roughly 100 craftsmen – some selected for their potential, others for their expertise. Ultimately, these individuals become masters in their trades and play a foundational role in the safety, quality, and efficiency of the projects on which they work.

“If you want a career in construction, Haskell's the place to go.,” said Tim Mosley, Haskell Senior Manager of Field Personnel. “And if you have the work ethic, the ability and the willingness to travel and go where you're needed, then your success rate will be even higher.

Travel is a natural part of the PCE lifestyle. Rather than experience downtime when a project is finished, PCEs transfer and immediately begin contributing to a new project. In addition to a competitive hourly wage, Haskell offers frequent overtime at a higher pay scale, safety bonuses, nontaxable per diem and paid travel home monthly.

Additionally, full-time team members enjoy an industry-leading benefits package that includes health insurance, a 401k match and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) that makes every team member an owner after a year with the company.

Training and career development are part of any position. Haskell’s crews self-perform many facets of work on major projects, such as steel, concrete and piping. When employing the recently developed Design Manufacture Construct (DMC) delivery method, which features modular room components assembled onsite to create significant structures, such as free-standing emergency rooms, Haskell crews perform all concrete work, set the modular units, perform the metal stud framing, drywall and finish work.

Not only is Haskell expanding its PCE ranks, it is recruiting the workforce of the future. As is the case throughout the construction industry, many of the company’s skilled craftsmen and field leaders will begin to consider retirement over the next decade. Haskell ranks No. 3 in Training Magazine’s Top 100 and recently hired a Craft Development Specialist, who visits job sites providing its teams with skill-based training.

“We need to fill those shoes and be able to take someone at that carpenter level, laborer level, whatever it may be, and give them the opportunity to get on job sites, learn what we do and grow with it,” Mosley said. “This is an opportunity to actually have a career, not just a job.”

Advancement opportunities obviously include construction leadership, but they also exist in the areas of Safety, Quality and the technology-related fields that are revolutionizing the industry.

“Whatever you’ve got the desire to do,” Mosley said, “we're going to try to set you up for success.”
