Home / News & Insights / Lead Recruiter Ally Steeg Lauded for Enthusiastically Living the Values
As Allyson Steeg sees it, her team often represents people’s first impression of Haskell. So, it’s no surprise that the Human Resources Group’s Lead Recruiter exudes enthusiasm.
“We are the front line and the face of the company to many job candidates,” Steeg said. “We’re a global company, and just within our group here in Jacksonville, we represent 22 offices. So many people we speak with possibly have never heard of Haskell before. On a lot of occasions, it’s up to us to differentiate Haskell from other companies.”
Steeg’s focus on finding the best candidates and presenting the best image possible for Haskell differentiated her in the eyes of her teammates, who nominated Steeg for the company’s Living Values Award. Team members Lacy McCullar, Keri Hover and Kevin Waldrop, all recruiters, felt Steeg exemplified the honor since she “consistently displays Haskell’s corporate values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust with commitment and passion.”
“Ally is the culture creator for our team,” McCullar, Hover and Waldrop wrote. “Ally approaches every situation with a warm and positive attitude.”
Steeg began her career at Haskell three years ago as one of four recruiters on the team. Now, in her role as lead recruiter, she manages a team of 11 recruiters, passing along suggestions on the best way to interact with job candidates on the phone or via video conferences.
“I have always been the type of person to begin a call with an icebreaker and to humanize the conversation,” Steeg said. “How is the weather in Idaho? Get a conversation started, and you will find out so much more about the person. There is a human on the other end. Once they’re more comfortable, we can find out what their career goals are in the long run.”
Steeg’s experience in numerous customer service positions was excellent preparation for the role. Her first job was at age 15 in a grocery store in her hometown of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. She also has waited tables at restaurants and earned a communications degree from the University of North Florida. So, she is perceptive about trends and goings-on in the office environment. Well, except where this honor was concerned.
“I was completely caught off guard,” she said. “We were having our biweekly, one-hour meeting, I had my sandwich, and someone said we were going to do something different today. They pulled a sheet off an easel and there was my picture with my 1-year-old son. I was incredibly humbled.
“I’m not easy to surprise since I’m such a control freak. My husband knows there won’t be any surprise birthday parties. When a few of my team members read the nomination for me aloud, it just brought me to tears.”
