Mara Scott relishes her behind-the-scenes role as Haskell’s Corporate Licensing Manager, a position that supports nearly every architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) discipline.

That’s why she was a bit red-faced recently when she was invited to a surprise team meeting where her husband and father were waiting with her co-workers to celebrate the company’s Living the Values Award recipient.

“I was, and still am, very humbled,” said Scott, who works out of the Jacksonville, Florida, headquarters. “I was really embarrassed to be recognized like that. But I understand that having that kind of high praise and recognition with Haskell is very special. I am so thankful. You can truly say that Haskell surrounds me with amazing people every day.”

Scott, a Lynchburg, Virginia, native and longtime Florida resident, has been with Haskell for a decade. Her honor as the recipient of the Living Values Award recognizes Scott’s consistent display of Haskell’s corporate values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust with commitment and passion. The quarterly honor is given to team members who consistently demonstrate the company's core values.

“Mara lives the values every day as a Haskell Team Member, Wife, Mother, and Friend,” wrote her nominator, Heather Cole, Haskell’s Process Improvement Manager ‒ Operations Support. “No matter how many tasks Mara is juggling, she will find a way to help others who need her assistance. As the Corporate Licensing Manager, Mara is responsible for professional and business licensing activities, providing support to projects, team members’ continuing education, and proactively identifying license status and compliance issues. If you asked one of our AE Team members, they would agree Mara’s licensing support is a priceless benefit to their ability to practice architecture or engineering at Haskell.”

Scott fulfilled her role singularly during her first seven years at Haskell until recently bringing on dedicated support. Cole noted that Scott would work long hours – sometimes 14-hour days – waiting for her young son to sleep and then log back on “to ensure nothing was falling through the cracks. ... Our team would fall apart without her.”

Before settling in at Haskell, Scott worked for a government logistics company. She had a leg up on knowing about Haskell since her father, David McCormick, has been a senior designer for the company for 26 years. “I wanted something more stable, and this is where I wanted to work,” Scott said. “I applied for a few different positions and found my niche in this role.”

When not diving into the moving landscape of licensing or spending family time, Scott enjoys reading, mostly James Patterson, although she tries to find a balance between fiction and non-fiction. She also loves to travel, a pastime that will soon include a month-long family trip to Australia.

But don’t worry, fellow Haskell team members. Scott has proven to be well-versed in the licensure of individuals and projects at all times of the day or night all over the world.
