Home / News & Insights / AXA XL Index Ranks Haskell #1 in Construction Technology Adoption
Global insurance carrier AXA XL has ranked Haskell No. 1 in the 2022 Technology Adoption Maturity Index (TAMI). The second annual designation celebrates Haskell’s leadership in embracing innovation and adopting technology solutions.
Haskell tied for second place in the inaugural TAMI and is the only company to rank in the top three in consecutive years. This year, DPR, based in Redwood City, California, was runner-up, and Birmingham, Alabama-based Brasfield & Gorrie was third.
TAMI is AXA XL’s proprietary benchmarking service to help contractors measure their tech adoption against an industry index and their peers to determine optimal investment in new construction technologies.
“It's very exciting,” said Cutler Knupp, Managing Director of Dysruptek. “It's a testament to everybody's commitment because this report encompasses factors that, while they involve Dysruptek, also involve the organization as a whole. The commitment from across the enterprise shows what is capable of being achieved.”
Haskell counts among its strategic pillars the goal of optimizing intellectual capital, technology and innovation. To that end, it created Dysruptek, its venture arm dedicated to scouting, piloting and investing in emerging technologies, as well as capitalizing on the innovations born within its diverse employee base.
That steady focus has permeated the company down to the project level, Knupp said.
“It's a mindset now,” he said. “There's been tangible impact. Our people are thinking differently. We're seeing now that folks across the organization at all levels are embracing new means and methods to improve their work product. We are seeing this take place at a rate we have not seen before, and it is a very exciting time here at Haskell.”
AXA XL’s Construction team designed the TAMI assessment to provide clients a clear picture of how tech-savvy they are compared to others in the industry and identify areas where additional technology could improve operations and risk management. Using TAMI, AXA XL’s Construction team evaluates and scores contractors on their technology use in five key areas:
“More contractors are realizing that innovative technology solutions are the road to protecting our workforce, reducing risk and achieving better business results and companies like Haskell, DPR and Brasfield & Gorrie are taking a lead in the industry,” said Rose Hall, AXA XL Construction’s Head of Innovation. “They all exhibit a strong commitment to adopting new technology and based on their TAMI scores this year, show that they continue to push innovative solutions into their operations showing incremental improvements year over year.”
In the Haskell TAMI report, AXA XL chose and elaborated on four Areas of Excellence: Alternative Means & Methods, Material Management, Worker Management & Injury Prevention and Data Analytics.
“It’s fantastic that that a leading global insurer in the construction space is investing the time and energy to do this because it's providing a level of transparency that we've never had before,” Knupp said. “We've never had a benchmark, and there've been no comparisons like these. Healthy competition is always good, and this is a way to generate it around technology and innovation. That’s very positive because it’s going to take the whole village to move the needle on the industry holistically.”
