Welders, steel-fitters and even job-seekers looking to learn those valuable trades should mark their calendars for a hiring event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on February 9, when Haskell Steel will be rolling out $1,000 signing bonuses at its Jacksonville facility.

Created in the 1970s with five men working in the corner of a warehouse, Haskell Steel has grown into a crew of more than 50 team members in a 65,000-square-foot production facility producing more than 10,000 tons of steel per year.

Now, with demand at an all-time high, the team is growing, and opportunities await.

Haskell operates with the direction of six strategic pillars, the first of which is to “Provide Team Members the BEST Job of Their Lives.” After 30 days, full-time team members are eligible for a generous benefits plan, including paid time off, a 401k match and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which creates stock ownership. And those who join the team at the job fair can cash that $1,000 sign-on check.

“The thing they need to understand is that our people are not just a commodity for us,” said Steve Gibson, Director of Haskell Steel. “In our shop, they’re full-time team members with opportunities for overtime and the same benefits that everyone in the company gets.”

Those experienced in the steel industry will join a fabrication team equipped with the latest technology and certified continuously by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) since 2009. Those looking to learn a good-paying trade don’t need to spend thousands on tuition at a welding school. Haskell offers training and robust support in the pursuit of certification.

“The thing is, we can bring we can bring someone in as a trainee, and if they have the aptitude and the inclination to learn to be a welder, we can teach them how to be a welder in a pretty short period of time and can actually get them certified,” Gibson said. “It’s a great opportunity for someone looking for a really solid career.”

Haskell Steel is a trusted source of materials for the designers, builders and owners of large projects. In addition to producing structural components for its projects of its own and those of others, the operation also is adding a miscellaneous shop to create standardized components, such as stairs and guardrails.
