From one day to the next, the Structural Engineering team in Haskell’s St. Paul, Minnesota, office addresses projects ranging from five to nine figures for clients that range from food and beverage giants to the federal government.

Now, with demand surging, the team has an immediate opening for a second Structural Designer to join its group of eight engineers. In all, the office comprises about 40 team members who span the engineering disciplines.

“The types of projects we work on are really wide-ranging,” said Jon Boyum, Lead Structural Engineer. “We work from small projects where, literally, our design fee is $10,000, up to $100 million design-build projects. We primarily work in the industrial sector, but certainly we get into food and beverage and government projects.

“We’re a very friendly bunch. I don't know if you'd say we're like family, but maybe that's the word. We're relaxed. We're pretty low key, but we do pursue excellence. We get the work done when we need to.”

The St. Paul team is part of Haskell’s Design & Consulting Services (DCS) Group that unites architecture, engineering, and consulting professionals from across industries and geographies to serve clients needing specialized, fee-for-service design or consulting projects. Haskell teams form strong collaborative relationships with client teams, helping them address industry and market challenges.

The ideal candidate will have five to 10 years of structural detailing and modeling experience. They should be proficient in Revit, familiar with AutoCAD and have some experience working with point clouds and Navisworks.”

The specific projects are as varied as the size and application, Boyum said.

“In manufacturing, it might be a building with equipment and mezzanines, or a chemical processing facility where we’re not working on the building per se, but a pipe rack or a tower of platforms,” he said. “We’re currently working on an addition to an existing manufacturing facility that will become the plant’s new entry and will include a cafeteria, office and locker rooms for the employees. So, there are some architecturally driven projects as well.

“What we do is new every day. The variety is challenging. It's interesting. You learn a lot. In fact, you can't help but learn when you work on such a variety of projects.”
