Here are three clear reasons why there has never been a better time to be a business development professional in Haskell’s Water Division:

  1. The need for water infrastructure work is critical across the nation.
  2. Funding for those much-needed projects is flowing from the recently passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
  3. With a healthy supply of work underway or breaking ground soon, Haskell offers the opportunity to build client relationships without the need to close immediately.

“This is a great time to come on as a business developer because we've got unmatched backlog,” said Bryan Bedell, Vice President and Water Division Leader. “Also, the country is making the biggest investment of federal dollars in water infrastructure since the Clean Water Act in 1978. With infrastructure funding coming in, there are going to be abundant opportunities at every level to come in and win projects.”

Available are the Director of Business Development (BD) position, likely based at the Jacksonville, Florida, headquarters, and multiple Manager of Business Development spots in the company’s 20-plus offices across the country.

There’s much to sell. Haskell currently has 14 projects under construction that average $85 million, and 2023 will see no fewer than six of at least $100 million underway. As a pioneer in integrated project delivery, it does no design-bid-build work, concentrating instead on design-build, progressive design-build or construction manager at-risk (CMAR).

“We're one of only a handful of companies big enough to be able to do every size of project and across the spectrum,” Bedell said. “We have work in all regions of the country.”

Work ranges from increasing resiliency and improving flood control in the eastern part of the country to combatting a historic drought in the west.

Also, proactive utilities are preparing for what they expect to be tightening regulations of emerging contaminants, Bedell said.

“This movement is one of the biggest changes we're seeing in the industry,” he said. “PFOS, PFAS, microplastics, pharmaceuticals, 1,4-dioxane – all those types of things are now showing up as emerging contaminants that finally people can see are in their drinking water service and they don't want them there. That's going to drive the industry.”

Ideal candidates would be mid-career business development professionals with experience in the water market, he said. “Of course, that’s ideal world. In the realistic world, with somebody who has the skill set and the intangible personality pieces, we can teach them the market. Again, we’re in the fortunate position that we have a little bit of ramp up time right now because we have such tremendous backlog.”

In addition to providing a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment, Haskell operates with the direction of six strategic pillars, the first of which is to “Provide Team Members the BEST Job of Their Lives.” It offers a robust benefits package that includes a 401k match and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which creates stock ownership for every full-time team member.

Further, expanding diversity and inclusion is a pillar of Haskell’s strategic roadmap, and Bedell stressed that he hoped to be able to choose from a broad-ranging field of candidates.
